After nearly 36 years in the jewellery business, George McKenzie, the owner of McKenzie Jewellery Ltd, knows a thing or two about success.

Born in St Catherine, Jamaica, George came here as a 9 year old. He attended Handsworth Wood Boys’ School and on leaving learned his trade during his 12 years at nearby Excalibur Jewellery. George decided to go it alone after spending 14 months without a job.

.

McKenzie Jewellery Ltd is one of the first businesses in the trade to be run by an African-Caribbean in Birmingham. Incorporating repairs, alterations as well as manufacturing individual items.

George's talent has been required by the likes of jewellery chain store H Samuels. His expertise suitably impressed the delegation of South African business people that travelled to Britain a few years ago with President Nelson Mandela and the possibility of forming links in the near future are looking promising.

The business is at in the heart of the Jewellery Quarter at

82 Vyse Street
in Hockley. The Jewellery Quarter is within walking distance of Birmingham city centre. For over 200 years jewellery manufacturers have operated from this area of the city. The area is now a tourist attraction in its own right. This spacious accommodation enables George to provide an improved service to his customers and allow for his plans to expand.
